Portraits of my kids in 2021: March

Karen Hilmersson May 27, 2021

Portraits of March: can you guess which movie? Should be an easier on than the previous one (which in fairness was a little dark and tough ;)). Answer will not be given before you scroll down a little. I will however tell you a bit about the behind the scenes :)

Portraits of my kids in 2021: February

Karen Hilmersson April 22, 2021

Second month, second movie! Can you guess? I’ll tell you below… it was harder this month because first lack of inspiration, second lack of time and third… I chose an image that doesn’t really correspond to my style (way too yellow) so the edit I did doesn’t do the original justice (hence the black and white version as a header here) :

Dried flowers - Mon petit bloem de chemin

Karen Hilmersson April 17, 2021

Hugo just started a beautiful business of dried flowers called Mon Petit Bloem de Chemin. I met him in a flower shop and he did the most beautiful flower bouquet I took a portrait with once (check it out here). So of course me and my love for flowers would like to support him ! Let me introduce a bit of his work (first off, you can see above the beautiful flower crown Lily ordered in 80s colours) and below, his beautiful bouquets:

Chloé - beautiful pregnancy session

Karen Hilmersson April 2, 2021

It had been a while before I did a photoshoot… Pandemic and all that but also a really bad experience last April both for me and the people I did the session for. Disappointment and heartaches that made me stop shooting for others for a while (aside from people who are always happy with what I do ;)) …

But then Chloé , lovely illustrator, contacted me, we spoke, I somewhat felt this was going to be a match and then we had this beautiful session. I learnt a lot about what I should and shouldn’t say yes to and what I can and cannot offer….and I can say that I’m back on track now (for a while at least), so hit me with your wishes for a session if you have any here. A bit more from the session:

Winter memories : Morvan -part 1

Karen Hilmersson January 21, 2021

Winter in the Morvan! Finally! I have done all seasons there, Spring, Summer and Autumn. And once we went for Easter and I fathomed the idea that maybe it would be worth as winter… but…. now that I was actually there in the winter, I can affirm this: It wasn’t really! Here comes the proper “Morvan in the winter” :

Winterland pie

Karen Hilmersson December 25, 2020

For the second time, I was asked to participate in the wonderful creatives calendar organised by Gina from Willowday (check her amazing floral creations and art) on instagram and my turn is today! Wishing all the ones celebrating Christmas today a very merry one and for the others also why not try that pie recipe, using all the cookie cutters you made gingerbread cookies with before putting them away until next year?

Portraits of December 2020: Family best wishes

Karen Hilmersson December 23, 2020

It’s not the usual portraits together of my kids but it’s right on time to finish the year! In December, I decided to just post some best wishes for the holiday season and hope that 2021 will be a tad more kind, fun and anything short of not being 2020 basically! And instead of the usual outtakes, here is a little short movie sort of behind the scene:

Portraits of my kids together in 2020: November

Karen Hilmersson December 22, 2020

Special shoot to wrap up this year: good times, great results (in my eyes at least) and his happy in the end. A great way to end a somewhat shitty year (in terms of pictures too in my view ;)). I even already printed the calendar that I refill with inkifi every year and send to the grandparents (and keep one for ourselves too!

Easy Blackberry jam and styling

Karen Hilmersson December 13, 2020

Here is my take on a blackberry jam. Maybe it’s too late for you to do it but you can always save it for next year! or use frozen berries, that recipe works with both: I used the really simple recipe from Green kitchen stories:

Portraits of my kids together in 2020: October

Karen Hilmersson December 5, 2020

There wasn’t much time for shooting in October, different reasons for it but then I did this cake and there was pretty pumpkins on the table, I thought, that’s it, double shooting man!

Caramel pear upside down cake (Gluten free)

Karen Hilmersson November 29, 2020

Once again, I stumbled on Linda Lomelino’s amazing cooking blog and couldn’t resist trying my version of the apple upside down cake. I chose pears because we had some from our courtyard and I tried a gluten free (not vegan though) version:

Summer 2020: Bretagne - Part 3 (the end)

Karen Hilmersson November 18, 2020

Brittany, part 3 of our summer holidays was bittersweet. Half amazing with the beach, landscapes and fun. Part very sad with our little kitten getting very sick and not knowing what was happening with him. So these are just the fun bits. You already have had a peek when I did the august portraits, but this time I will also give all the details about the places we went. (Also there was part 1 and part 2, in case you have missed it)

Portraits of my kids together in 2020: September

Karen Hilmersson November 8, 2020

I had to do it, right? One of the monthly portraits this year had to be representative of this (crappy) year. Going back to school in September meant that they had to be wearing masks. And they did. I’m proud of them because I wouldn’t be able to wear a mask all day like this and I’m very lucky to have been able to telework for months now. We tried to make all the faces with masks representing diverse emotions (let’s see if that has worked). But we also took some pictures without the masks…:

Summer 2020: Vendée - Part 2

Karen Hilmersson November 2, 2020

Second part of our summer holidays, I hope you don’t mind the little journal style? First part was in Morvan, a place I have mentioned several times in my old blog. This one is in Vendée (or more precisely Brétignolles-sur-Mer ). A place I also mentioned a couple of times! First time seeing the sea in 2020 and that was just magical to be there:

Portraits of my kids together in 2020: August

Karen Hilmersson October 18, 2020

Portraits of my kids in August were taken in Brittany. It’s a bit of a spoiler alert for the part 3 or our summer (I just published part 1) but nevermind. I’ll give you more details about places and all when I do the blog post. You can see the sunshine and the happy moments. They were among the happy days amidst a really difficult time with the kitten we had adopted. But capturing those moments is what I’m here for: remembering the nice times, the beautiful light, the amazing landscapes, the oysters fished across the bay eaten at the sundown, the laughter:

Summer 2020: Morvan - Part 1

Karen Hilmersson October 3, 2020

Yes, there was a summer 2020. As incredible as it might sound (believe me, it wasn’t until last minute that I really believed it would happen) with this crazy year. We were lucky to be able to leave Belgium and spend some time in France and of course, as usual, I captured it all. First part of our summer was in Morvan. Once my old blog is back up, you can see the previous posts about it. At least the images are still on a google search! Despite having been there many times, I still discovered new places:

Portraits of my kids together in 2020: July

Karen Hilmersson September 1, 2020

Eliott, Lily … and Bowie in July 2020. I was about to let you know in this post that we had a new family member so we had this idea for the portrait. Now this little kitten isn’t in such a good form and I’m not sure how to call it any longer but still… This was definitely our family in July and now we just have to hope for the best:
